- Similar to many other years, 2014 was an extremely great year for first-person shooters. A number of good games were released and others were teased for the next year or freed in Alpha.
Runner-Up (Halo-The Master Chief Collection- Xbox One)
This is one of the year’s best deals. The owners of Xbox One were given a treat to completely remastered Halo versions. These are Combat Evolved and Halo 2, 3 and 4.
The collection has each multiplayer and DLC modes also. It all appears to play well, even though the release was spoiled by matchmaking problems.
It may be a fascinating value regardless of the matchmaking problems mixed with the fact that it is a re-release instead of a new Halo. This signifies that Master Chief is still restricted to runners-up.
Runner-Up (Titanfall (Xbox One, PC)
- Titanfall is great fun. It has the formula of Call of Duty and adds in larger maps and good big mechs then matches players against each other and many bots in different multiplayer matches.
- The game’s movement feels very nice, even though it might not be as open and liberating such as Tribes-Ascend.
Sadly, no one-player campaign is available and the multiplayer does not have enough strength on its own to ensure Titanfall improves and advances from ‘good’ to ‘great.’
- It is a steady initial step to something nicer however, and particularly enjoyable for new players of twitch-shooters.
Runner-Up – Destiny Xbox 360 & One, PS3 & PS4)
Destiny feels like an initial step also. As the game is lovely and the game plays strong, the initial campaign of the game felt gutted in comparison to what had been advertised.
There is much to love, particularly for people who have fun grinding and fans for MMO. However, scarcity of matchmaking choices and the scarce story limits a game which is capable of being great.
For other people like me, excess grinding and a lame story plus few social choices, makes Destiny appear incomplete instead of a complete game. Potential is present here, although it has not yet been realized completely.
Runner-Up – Shadow Warrior (PS4, PC, Xbox One)
The dark humor, raid gun fighting and overall cheek of Shadow Warrior ensures it is very enjoyable to play. Apart from this, you have a fascinating katana and a lot of super-powers which are demonic, available for you.
Also, limbs just fly all over when you begin swinging that blade. It’s just hilarious! It plays well with a gamepad also, even though you will not match accurately for a mouse and keyboard.
Also, this shooter is not based on accuracy, instead, it is a game of spraying and praying and also hacking and slashing which is much quicker and stranger than others.
There are various other shooters being created soon, such as the new Unreal Tournament, Toxikk, a shooter for indie arena and Battlefield Hardine which involves police and robbers.
Which shooters were your favorites in the year? What expectations do you have for 2015?
