VI2 modification for shared hosting

Hi Pete,
Believe there are some threads which mentioned about hosting unlimited domains on shared plan from Hostgator.

I tried to create VI2 blogs on those addon domains but having problem. The index page only appears when i type into the browser like www.mydomain/public_html/

The advise from Hostgator is to leave the ftp path blank but VI2 does not allow that.

Pls advise asap.

You need to find a host that works with VI 2 etc

other people have had success with shared hosting, though we do not recomend it.

I'm using shared hosting for my VI blogs , no problems ..

This is what i enter in VI:

web url : www.addondomain.com
ftp server : ftp.maindomain.com
ftp user : username
ftp password: *****
ftp path : /public_html/addondomain/

What is your RSS2B setup with the addon?

I run RSS2B on VPS, so the setup should be the same as usual. I don't put RSS2B on shared nor reseller account.

Pete,
Could you share with us as to why it's not a good idea to use shared hosting.

shared hosting does work with VI 2 , though a lot of people seem to find this very difficult, and we cannot teach individual people how to use/manage ftp etc.

this is beyond the scope of our support, especially when there are 1000's of hosts that work with just a couple of clicks etc.

thoug there may be others in here who have the time and are willing to help etc. thus the reason for the forum.

OK, cool.
That opens it up then. I thought there might be a technical problem with addons and VI2. ANd yes , that is why the forum exist. Anyway it is cheap enough to try and see what happens.

Does anyone know if Googles sees addons differently than regular domains?

google sees them as normal domains

excellent. I am going to test it later this week. We allow me to hide among the other sites on the IP unlike on my dedicated box.
